Champion Daylilies

My Favorite Daylilies

Every year hundreds of people ask me what my favorite daylily is. That is such a hard question to answer. I could cop out and say it is the one that is blooming, but most people don't like that answer as true as it is. So, I will do my best to list the cultivars I like the most. Just remember, beauty is always in the eye of the beholder.

One thing I can state for a fact is that my biggest selling daylily for the last couple of seasons is
Ruby Spider. And was once again for the 2011 season.

Answering the rest of the question gets a little more subjective.
So, here goes my list from what I saw in the 2011 bloom season.

For a purple shade I like Jamie Dockery

And, the really dark Duck's Dark Side

For a more lavender shade I like God Save The Queen

For the yellow it is still hard to beat Lemon Parchment

Red is always the most popular color.
I am impressed with Mississippi Red Bed Beauty

For a rose color Roses and Gold is beautiful

Cream/white is the hardest to choose. So, since I'm writing the rules I get two picks.

With a slight green tint I really like Dawn Appears

President Ronald Reagan really stands out
as a near white

For a pink Natalie Antoinette is every visitors choice

For a pink with an eye Mary Alice is close to perfect

There are a lot of Oranges I like, but Matthew Kaskel is spectactular

Now I know this is not a color choice,
but the next question you ask is probably what is my favorite double and spider.

Ok, a double I think is really outstanding is Royal Corsage

And, Holiday Party is as pretty as it is unique

Doubly Hot maybe just be the best red double ever
according to many visitors

For a spider, I would have to choose Free Wheelin'

Or, the very late blooming Humble Heart

And, Small World Snow Owl
is as white, big and pretty as they come

And, who could leave out Webster's Pink Wonder
and her 13" span

My favorite eyed daylilies are the bold Walter Kennedy

Along with the stunning Shipwreck Cove

For a gold Bill Norris remains a long time favorite

For a very different color flower that is truly great
I find it hard to pass up Spellbound Secret

And, I can't leave the simply beautiful
Fabulous Black Pearl off of any list

My wife's favorite this year is one of our seedlings.
It's hard to argue with her on that pick
(and of course, all us guys know you'll never win an argument with your wife)

Now, since this is my website, I reserve the right to change my mind.
In fact if you ask me again when they are blooming I'll probably have a different list.
But I tried to give you a fair assesment of my thoughts.

No matter how you look at it, you can't go wrong with any daylily.
